About Syphilis
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacteria. The most common way to get infected is through unprotected sex. You can also get infected through oral and anal sex.
Syphilis develops in 3 stages - primary, secondary, and tertiary syphilis. The incubation period is approximately three weeks to three months for the primary stage, seven to ten weeks for the secondary stage, and several years for the tertiary stage. In primary syphilis, the infection can be transmitted to others through sexual contact. In the later stages, the infection is transmitted through the blood, which can lead to fetal transmission. Nordictest's syphilis test provides a rapid result. Our test detects the Treponema pallidum antibody produced in the body to fight syphilis infection. You will have the result within a few minutes.
Gonorrhea Test with Results in 15 Minutes
Once you have performed your test according to the instructions, you only need to wait 10 minutes for your test result. Our tests are of high quality with a 99.8 percent accuracy rate. This means it is as reliable as the result you would get from a doctor, but it is faster.
If You Have Syphilis
Syphilis is covered by the Communicable Diseases Act, which means you are obligated to get tested if you suspect you may be infected. Syphilis is classified as a notifiable disease in Sweden under the Communicable Diseases Act. Contact tracing is therefore mandatory. The infected person is advised to abstain from sexual intercourse until an antibiotic treatment is completed and a disease-free control test is available.
Common Symptoms
Some people experience symptoms, while others may have the infection without noticing it. In primary syphilis, a sore typically appears, usually on the genitals, around the anal opening, or in the mouth. Swollen lymph nodes in the groin area can also occur. The sores are usually painless and range from one to two centimeters in size, which can make them difficult to detect. Even if the sores can heal on their own after two to eight weeks, it does not mean you are free of infection. You still carry the infection, and it is essential to receive treatment. Diagnosis is always made by a doctor.
