Description of Urinary Tract Infection Rapid Test

Urinary tract infection can affect both women and men at any time in life. Often, the discomfort goes away after a few days, but it is not uncommon for the infection to spread to other organs.

A good first step is to perform a rapid test at home. Burning and problems related to urination are common symptoms. In some cases, you may also experience a fever and abdominal pain.

What is a urinary tract infection?

If you have a urinary tract infection, you often feel pain during urination. The infection is caused by bacteria mainly in the bladder and urethra, but any organ in contact with urine, such as the kidneys, can become infected. Women are more prone to bladder infections because they have a shorter urethra.

How does the home urinary tract infection test work?

When the test strip comes into contact with urine, it changes color. Depending on the color, you can interpret the result using the color chart included in the rapid test. Exact instructions on how to perform the test can be found in the accompanying instructions.

Who can and should be tested for urinary tract infections?

Urinary tract infections can be tested at home by both women and men, regardless of age. Especially if you experience burning during urination, you should get tested. If you feel the need to urinate more frequently and/or notice an unusual odor in your urine, it is also advisable to take the urinary tract infection test. If you are pregnant and the test result shows abnormal values, you should seek medical care.

What does the result of the urinary tract infection test indicate?

The urinary tract infection test shows the level of white blood cells, proteins, nitrates, and blood in the urine. An abnormally high level of these is a common symptom of infection and can be analyzed based on the color of the urinary tract infection test strip.
